And change is happening, whether you like it or not. What is our “edge” as creative humans? What do we have over our robot competition?Ĭollectively, we need to focus our energy on strengthening and articulating this competitive advantage, rather than cowering in fear. ……And then another robot took *its* job, but that’s another story □ A robot (named Redbox) took their job, too. On a macro level, we creatives need to learn from Blockbuster’s mistakes. They go see them, pay their respects, say “Oh, that’s cool!” and “Remember when?” Sure, people marvel at novelties, they visit them when they're in town. Because a one-man show is only entertaining for so long. To me, this final Blockbuster felt more like a warning than a good time. It survives on pure novelty and nostalgia. Work serves as the true indicator of where a person's skills truly lie-whether in theory or in practice.Įver since I can remember, I’ve had a passion for storytelling. It's essential to look for the work they have done. This is also something to keep in mind when assessing someone based on how well-versed they sound when speaking about a subject. We often tend to lean towards one or the other, and that can be a mistake. However, we all know that doesn't always happen. In an ideal world, one would dedicate equal time to learning from both theory and practice. Therefore, do not assume that reading 100 books in a year automatically qualifies you to make accurate decisions in real-world scenarios.Īlways put your learnings to the test as soon as possible otherwise, your understanding remains superficial and lacks the necessary depth to truly comprehend and make informed decisions in the real world. In fact, individuals who excel in speaking or writing about a subject may prove to be completely incapable of effectively executing the very things they speak so confidently about. Theoretical learning alone does not equip individuals with the necessary tools to navigate the real world and make confident decisions. Whenever you read a book or engage in any form of learning, remember that the knowledge gained will not make a difference unless it is implemented in some way. Not trying to discourage anyone from learning, but it's important to learn as much from doing as you do from books, articles, and videos.
